I was not aware that the quality of university education in England is in decline until I read your article. The situation appears similar in Japan, where I lecture in English. I find many students ill-prepared for university education. Many lack the necessary intellectual abilities, while many more have very little interest in actually learning anything. Why do parents pay so much money for an education when their children are too lazy to study? Parents often force their children into university not to challenge them academically but simply for the social prestige and reputation associated with certain universities.
